Japan Rail Pass

The Japan Rail Pass is the best way to see Japan as it offers incredible flexibility and independence being valid for unlimited travel on the entire Japan Railways system or JR Rail.

In addition the JR Pass is valid for all buses and ferries operated by JR. (Japan Railways)

Who is eligible for a Japan Rail Pass?

JR Rail Pass is available only to travelers to Japan and the pass must be purchased before entering the country. Visitors holding a working-holiday, student or business visa are not entitled to purchase a Japan Rail Pass. Passes should be purchased in conjunction with your holiday itinerary.

Once purchased in return you will receive an Exchange Order from Japan Holidays. This can be exchanged for your chosen pass within 3 months of issue as designated JR Stations in Japan. This must be done in person and your Passport will be required at the time of exchange. Your pass can be used immediately you have had it validated unless you specify a later start date.

Seat reservations cannot be made in advance before arrival in Japan. Once in Japan seat reservations can be easily made and there is an English-language information and booking service available in Tokyo ( Monday-Frdiay).

Terms & Conditions

-       The Japan Rail Pass is not valid for Nozomi Super- Express Shinkansen bullet trains.

-       The exchange order must be exchanged for a Rail pass within 3 months of issue

-       Unused exchange orders are refundable within twelve(12) months of issue, subject to cancellation fees.

JR East Pass

Discover eastern Japan with the JR East Pass. Valid for travel to the ski resorts of Nagano, Niigata, Yamagata, Fukushima, Sendai, Morioka and Akita. In addition to the 5 and 10 day consecutive day travel passes, there is a flexible 4 day pass that allows you to travel on any 4 consecutive or non-consecutive days within one month.

JR West Pass

With the JR West Rail system you have the choice of the Sanyo Area Pass for either 4 or 8 consecutive days travel, or for the Kyoto and Kansai Area Pass, 1-4 days.

Sanyo Area Pass

For travel to Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima, Hakata and other sightseeing destinations in the Sanyo area via Nozomi Super –Express and other Sanyo shinkansen super-express bullet trains.

Kansai Area Pass

For travel to Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Himeji and other sightseeing destinations in the Kansai area utilizing the services of local trains.

JR Kyshu Pass

The ideal pass for exploring the remarkable island of Kyushu. Vaild for travel to Fukuoka, Beppu, Mt Aso, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Saga, Kagoshima, Nagansaki, Oita, and other tourist destinations in the area.

JR Hokkaido Pass

Hokkaido is Japan’s northernmost main island. The Hokkaido area is known for its great nature and delicious food. Valid for travel to Hakodate, Niseko, Noboribetsu, Sapporo, Otaru, Asahikawa, Kushiro and Abashiri.

Travelling Times by Shinkansen bullet train

Tokyo- Kyoto 2 Hours 43 minutes: Tokyo Odawara 34 minutes: Tokyo – Shin Osaka 3 Hours: Tokyo – Nagoya 2 Hours : Tokyo Hiroshima 4 Hours 43 Minutes: Kyoto – Shin-Osaka 15 minutes: Kyoto – Hiroshima 1 Hour 58 minutes.

Train Tickets

Japan Holidays books train tickets for persons not travelling on JR Rail Passes.

There is a ticket delivery fee of $40 to Hotel or other place within Japan. The delivery fee will be waivered in the event other services like transfers, tours and hotels are purchased in conjunction.
